Homophobia is the violent border guard of masculinity, there to punish and victimise any man deemed to violate the norms of 'being a man'. So obviously queer men are the principal victims of male homophobia - but it's homophobia against straight men that allows us to understand what this bigotry is, and how maleness is constructed.
