Nicholas Berggruen highlights that california has too much democracy in the sense that any idea proposed will bring about many different groups who will oppose it making it very difficult to get things done. Meanwhile in Europe it's exactly the opposite in the way that the EU was contructed by the elite who tried to unite europe by giving them one currency but failing to put financial stuctures in place to make it work.

Nicolas Berggruen is an investor and philanthropist. A dual American and German citizen, he is the founder and president of Berggruen Holdings, a private investment company and the Nicolas Berggruen Institute on Governance, a think tank that works on addressing governance issues. His father created the Museum Berggruen in Berlin. The press has sometimes referred to Berggruen as "the homeless billionaire" because he lives in hotels and does not own a home.
