Ben opens by introducing all the speakers and saying that everyone is at the Union in honour of the 80th anniversary of this same debate that was held 80 years ago in 1933. It shocked dignitaries that the motion was carried that this house would not fight for king and country.

Ben has two points to his talk; how the illusionary nature of 'Queen and Country' makes us fight for the wrong reasons and also what is insidious about fighting under the banner of 'Queen and Country'. He argues that the monarchy is becoming increasingly difficult to fight for, following this he quotes Prince Phillip on a number of occasions. He highlights that we fight a war for the collective good of humanity not a woman who was born to be appointed to the throne. He says that the illusions of 'Queen and Country' dehumanises supposed 'enemies' just because they were born in Russia or Korea. He concludes by saying fight for your fellow man, not Queen and Country, as he is just as valuable as any king or queen.
