Dr Alaa Murabit, a Libyan-Canadian medical doctor and women's rights activist, is one of the 17 Global Sustainable Development Goal Advocates appointed by the UN Secretary General and a UN High-Level Commissioner on Health Employment & Economic Growth.
After being accepted into medical school at the age of 15, Murabit turned to advocacy and founded an NGO focusing on empowering women caught in conflict in her native Libya. In 2017, Murabit was named as a Forbes 30 Under 30.
