Georgina Beyer was the world’s first transgender Mayor and MP. A former sex worker, she has campaigned for reformed prostitution legislation and LGBTQIA+ rights in New Zealand, including the passing of the Civil Union Act of 2004. Her open discussion of her pre-political life has had a profound impact on political discourse in New Zealand and placed the issue of LGBTQIA+ rights in the political mainstream.
