Authoritarian governments have been both lauded and criticised for their handling of the COVID-19 crisis. While the most effective tracking and prevention technologies function best under authoritarian regimes, many fear such technologies opening the door to a greater role of the state in everyday life. Will the pandemic spell the end of liberal democracy as we know it?
SPEAKERS
Dr Erica Frantz: Assistant Professor in Political Science at Michigan State University, and expert on the security and policy implications of authoritarian rule.
Rami Khouri: Senior Fellow and Professor of Jour- nalism at the American University of Beirut, and nonresident senior fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School.
Prof. Lawrence Gostin: Director of the Georgetown University O'Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law, and expert in public health law.
