Rafael Grossi is an Argentine diplomat. After serving as Ambassador to Austria, Slovenia and Slovakia, he was appointed Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The IAEA is an agency of the United Nations pursuing the goal of nuclear safety by promoting the peaceful use of nuclear energy and condemns its use for military purposes. The importance of nuclear disarmament has reached its post-Cold War climax. With the United States ending its agreement with Iran, and other nations such as North Korea joining the potentially-catastrophic race, the IAEA’s work is more crucial than ever. The future of nuclear arms is one of the greatest debates of our political history. Rafael Grossi, as a figurehead and as an ambassador for nuclear peace, will provide the Union with expert insight.

ABOUT THE OXFORD UNION SOCIETY: The Oxford Union is the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. Since 1823, the Union has been promoting debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe.
