From China's treatment of the Uyghurs and strict COVID-19 policy, to it's state surveillance and aggressive foreign policy, growing numbers of critics view China as an existential threat to freedom and democracy. However, others liken China's actions to those of the USA or argue that it has been a positive force, lifting more than 800 million people from poverty. Are criticism of China simple and imposition of a Western value system or does China really pose an existential threat to our way of life?
