as posted by the channelProfessor David Stuart is an author, archaeologist and world renowned epigrapher famous for his breakthroughs in deciphering the Maya hieroglyphic writing system. Situated at the very frontiers of knowledge for decades now, thanks to his work and that of his colleagues since the 1970s an entirely new history of the Maya world has been arrived at in 2026. The history they themselves recorded, which we now understand quite a bit about. With the incredible developments in LIDAR technology also , more is known with each passing year. It was great to sit down with David and ask him about all the latest developments in his incredible field.
David Stuart is the current David and Linda Schele Professor of Mesoamerican Art and Writing at the University of Texas at Austin & heads the Mesoamerica Centre. He has written countless books on the Maya, including his most recent work, a brilliant new scholarly yet popular history 'The Four Heavens: A New History of the Ancient Maya'.
