Is it a valid observation of hypocrisy, or is it a false equivalence that ignores context?
Traditional voices argue it's the most basic check for double standards - if we're pursuing equality, identical behaviors should receive identical responses, but they don't. Progressive voices argue the opposite - that power dynamics, historical oppression, and statistical threat levels make superficially identical actions fundamentally different. Both can't be right. We steelman each position, then subject them to questioning to see which arguments actually hold up.
