Nearly half a billion dollars. 🚨 That’s how much Florida has spent in a single year enforcing immigration policy, including money pulled directly from a state emergency fund meant for hurricanes and natural disasters. ⚖️ Part of that spending went toward “Alligator Alcatraz,” an ICE detention facility in the Florida Everglades that reportedly costs one million dollars per day to operate. 🛂 Reports tied the facility to inhumane conditions, credible allegations of torture, and violations of detainees’ constitutional rights. A January investigation also found that the whereabouts of hundreds of detainees held there were impossible to clearly determine. 📄 These were real people detained in brutal conditions with little public accountability about where they even were.
