0:29Now PlayingThis video was filmed at The Oculus in New York City, right next to Ground Zero. Hanging in the Oculus is the flag of Saudi Arabia, which features the Shahada — the Islamic declaration of faith: “There is no god but Allah, and Mohammed is his prophet / messenger.”
The doctrine of violent jihad [1] found in the Koran (the words of Allah), the Sira (Mohammed’s biography), and the Hadith (Mohammed’s traditions) was the direct motivation for the killing of nearly 3,000 people on 9/11 2001 — the largest jihad attack on U.S. soil. Almost one third of the Islamic primary doctrine (Koran, Sira, and Hadith) is devoted to jihad [2].
Do you think it is appropriate to display the flag of Saudi Arabia so close to Ground Zero? And in the wider context, do you think it is appropriate to display the Saudi flag anywhere in the non-Islamic world?
