With co-author David Skover, Seattle University law professor Collins, a faculty member at the University of Washington Law School, poses the question: just what is dissent? Americans claim to value it and strive to protect it, but can we define it, or is it one of those vagaries we know when we see? Collins uses a range of contexts, from the legal to the philosophical to the linguistic, to formulate the meaning(s) of dissent.
