As a New York Times sports reporter as well as an experienced Wall Street Journal writer on economics and finance, Pilon is admirably suited to tell the story of Monopoly. Make that stories. Legend has it that the board game was invented by an unemployed man who made his fortune by selling it to Parker Brothers. In fact, Monopoly came from the decidedly anti-capitalist Landlord’s Game, the creation of Elizabeth Magie (1866 – 1948). Pilon will be in conversation with Stefan Fatsis, author of Word Freak and tournament Scrabble contestant.
