Five American designers were invited to participate, and their combination of fresh style, irreverence, and black models changed the rules of the game. Givhan expertly evokes the work of Bill Blass, Stephen Burrows, Oscar de la Renta, Halston, and Anne Klein, while showing how they drew on socio-cultural currents to crystallize the look of the moment.
