John Yochelson, "Loving and Leaving Washington"

Part of a generation of idealists, Yochelson came to D.C. in the 1970s eager to dive into public service. Over the next two decades he worked with the Center for Strategic and International Studies, becoming the organization’s senior vice president, and also served as president of the Council on Competitiveness. But as politics grew more partisan and less effective, Yochelson left town for San Diego, where he founded Building Engineering and Science Talent. The realities of funding, however, have brought Yochelson back, and his bittersweet memoir laments the lost political middle ground but is hopeful that future generations can recover the spirit that first drew Yochelson to Washington. Yochelson will be conversation with Max Stier, founding president and CEO of the Partnership for Public Service.
