The 1967 Six-Day war scatters the members throughout the Middle East, and Saddam Hussein’s 1990 invasion of Kuwait uproots many of them once more. Alyan, a poet, performer, and clinical psychologist who has worked with immigrants, is herself descended from a large Palestinian family and has lived in several different countries. Her professional training and personal experiences make this a deeply compelling and revelatory portrayal of people scarred many times over by exile and alienation.
