Focusing on both the economic and cultural impact of this shift from home to workplace, Zahidi, founder and coauthor of the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap, Human Capital and Future of Jobs report, recounts the experiences of a wide cross-section of women, from fast-food workers in Pakistan to caterers in Egypt and on to tech start-up founders in Indonesia. Zahidi shows how these courageous and determined women are earning autonomy along with paychecks and using their new purchasing power to force businesses to address women’s needs. Defying entrenched social conventions, these women are changing the ground rules for their daughters.
