Stuart R. Eizenstat discusses his book, "President Carter", at Politics and Prose on 4/24/18.

During his tenure as Jimmy Carter’s chief White House domestic policy adviser, Eizenstat was famous for taking diligent notes during meetings. He was transcribing history as it happened, and now those 7,500-plus pages, along with some 350 interviews, have been put to wonderful use as the foundation for this comprehensive chronicle of the Carter presidency. A close associate of Carter during Carter’s rise through Georgia politics, Eizenstat is illuminating about the man as well as about the policies. He examines in detail the successes of Carter’s term, including his negotiation of peace between Israel and Egypt, his focus on human rights, and the passage of the nation’s first comprehensive energy bill, as well as the disappointments such as the Iranian Hostage Crisis.
