Brad Meltzer and Josh Mensch discuss their book, "The First Conspiracy", at Politics and Prose on 1/9/19.

Writing history with the same command of pacing, suspense, and vivid action that has made him one of today’s finest thriller writers, Meltzer in his new book tells the startling, and perhaps deliberately repressed, story of a plot to assassinate George Washington. Looking back to 1776, Meltzer shows that the iconic year of American freedom was fraught with uncertainty. The patriots’ bid for independence was anything but sure and, fearing betrayal, Washington picked a group of elite soldiers to serve as his bodyguards, only to become the target of a treasonous plot nonetheless. From this early conspiracy Meltzer, host of the History Channel TV shows Brad Meltzer’s Decoded and Brad Meltzer’s Lost History, traces the roots of the FBI and CIA.

Meltzer is in conversation with his co-author Josh Mensch, award-winning documentary television producer for networks like PBS and Discovery.
