Evan Thomas discusses his book, "First", at Politics and Prose.

Writing with the same narrative flair, sense of history and politics, and deep insight into people and institutions that made his Being Nixon, Ike’s Bluff, and Wise Men essential Washington reading, Thomas now delivers an authoritative, compelling, and intimate portrait of Sandra Day O’Connor. Drawing on exclusive access to Justice O’Connor, her papers, and internal Supreme Court documents, along with interviews with the Justice’s family, friends, law clerks, and colleagues, Thomas chronicles in detail the life of the first woman Supreme Court Justice from her upbringing on an Arizona cattle ranch, her stellar academic career, and her shattering of glass ceilings in law, academia, and state government, to her tenure on the High Court from 1981 to 2006 and her resignation due to ill health. As Thomas masterfully shows, O’Connor left a powerful legacy in both jurisprudence and the popular imagination.

Thomas is in conversation with his wife, Oscie Thomas, a twenty-four-year legal professional and a frequent collaborator with her husband on his books over the years.
