Rick Moody discusses his book, "The Long Accomplishment", at Politics and Prose.

By his own admission, Moody, author of books including Purple America, The Ice Storm, and Garden State, “failed spectacularly” at his first marriage. Then in October 2013, in love with an artist named Laurel, he tried it again. Almost immediately, the couple was beset by disasters. Their efforts to have a child resulted in heartbreaking miscarriages. Friends died. Laurel’s mother’s health began to fail. Their apartment was robbed. But Moody and Laurel weathered each storm together, and at the end of this difficult year, their marriage was thriving. Written with Moody’s signature insight and unflinching honesty, this memoir is a moving testament to the power of love.
