A former assistant secretary of education, longtime research professor of education at NYU, and the author of books including The Death and Life of the Great American School System and Reign of Error, Ravitch is one of the nation’s foremost critics of education reform. In her impassioned new book, she takes issue with the movement to privatize public schools, exposing the failure of Common Core and detailing how the ideas promulgated by those who want to run schools as businesses—the Koch brothers, the DeVos family, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, among others—don’t improve test scores. She also celebrates the many parents, teachers, grandparents, students, bloggers, and religious leaders across the nation who are fighting to save the country’s public schools.
DIANE RAVITCH was born in Houston, Texas, and graduated from Wellesley College and Columbia University. She is a research professor of education at New York University and the author of eleven books. Ravitch is a recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Award. She lives in Brooklyn, NY.
