Not really a frilly dress kind of kid, US Juvenile figure skating champion Ana-Marie Jin is a little apprehensive about the next season’s princess theme. With the arrival of Hayden, a transgender boy new to the skating world, Ana starts thinking more deeply about gender identity. When Hayden mistakes Ana for a boy, Ana doesn’t correct him—and finds comfort in this boyish identity when they’re together. As their friendship deepens, Ana realizes how hard it is to juggle two different identities on one slippery rink. With a major competition approaching, Ana must decide whether telling everyone the truth is worth risking years of hard work and sacrifice.
A.J. Sass (he/they) is a writer, editor, and competitive skater. A long-time figure skater, he has passed his U.S. Figure Skating Senior Moves in the Field and Free Skate tests, medaled twice at the U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships, and currently dabbles in ice dance. A. J. lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his boyfriend and two cats who act like dogs. Ana on the Edge is his first novel.
Ashley Herring Blake (she/her) is the author of the young adult novels Suffer Love, How to Make a Wish, and Girl Made of Stars, as well as the Stonewall honor novel Ivy Aberdeen's Letter to the World, The Mighty Heart of Sunny St. James, and Hazel Bly and the Deep Blue Sea. Ashley lives in Georgia with her husband and two sons.
