For weeks, the government have stoked fears of the sanctity of Remembrance Day being desecrated, describing it as a hate march and reprimanding the police for not banning it, despite the march going nowhere near the cenotaph.
As a result, hundreds of football fans and far-right agitators felt compelled to turn out and defend it.
