Crucially, Applebaum argues that the UK, long seen as a global pillar of legal integrity, is at risk of eroding that reputation by undermining treaties it has signed. Such actions, she warns, are ripple outward, fuelling a wider sense of impunity among leaders who are watching and learning from one another.
Her testimony touches on the influence of social media in fracturing public consensus, the politicisation of the judiciary, and autocracy's lack of partiality.
