What I saw at the Palestine Action protest

In a clip from today's Podcast, Laura reports on what it was like being on the ground at the Palestine Action protest at Trafalgar Square on Saturday.

What she saw tells a very different story from much of the media coverage, a largely peaceful protest made up of older activists and pensioners willing to risk arrest to hold the British state accountable for their complicity in Gaza.

She's joined by Oli and Seán to unpack what happened, what it means, and how the protest has been portrayed. They discuss the backlash, the political framing, and the way public conversations around Israel and Palestine continue to be shaped by conflation between the Jewish community and the Israeli state.

We hear an excerpt from her interview with Emily Hilton, co-founder of Na’amod, a Jewish anti-occupation movement that helped organise the Jewish bloc at the demonstration. Emily explains why many British Jews are standing in solidarity with Palestinians and why rejecting violence doesn’t mean silencing dissent.

We also hear from protesters she spoke to on Saturday, including the son of a Holocaust survivor, who challenges claims that the pro-Palestine movement is inherently antisemitic.
