The most shocking part of the interview was Mandelson’s refusal to apologise for maintaining a relationship with Jeffrey Epstein after Epstein’s conviction. Pressed repeatedly by Kuenssberg on whether he regretted this continued association, Mandelson instead offered sympathy for “a system” that failed victims, insisting that he bore no personal responsibility and had no knowledge of Epstein’s crimes.
There were other jaw-dropping moments, including Mandelson’s attempts to distance himself from Epstein despite affectionate emails describing him as his “best pal”, his claim that being a gay man somehow kept him “separate” from Epstein’s behaviour, and his continued insistence that he believed Epstein over the women who accused him.
