YouTube Description
as posted by the channelIn a clip from today's podcast, Laura and Seán dig into the fallout after hundreds of BrewDog staff reportedly discovered that they'd lost their jobs on a short Teams call, with little warning and no consultation. With redundancy pay and unpaid wages now expected to be covered by the government’s insolvency scheme, the pair ask a difficult question: how did a company once valued at around £1 billion end up here, and why is the taxpayer footing the bill?
Laura and Seán detail how the brand built a supposedly rebellious, anti-corporate identity while raising money from more than 200,000 small investors through its “Equity Punks” scheme. Many of those early supporters bought into the project, but with the firm reportedly sold for a fraction of its former valuation, those investors will be walking away with nothing. Meanwhile, James Watt himself cashed out tens of millions of pounds in shares.
The pair discuss the collapse of that brands like Brewdog in a post-Covid economy, what it says about our modern culture.
