YouTube Description
as posted by the channelIn the nineties, the term “Essex Man” was used to denote a white, working-class voter, converted to Thatcherism.
And the long-serving Conservative MP for this constituency, Southend West and Leigh, was seen as his parliamentary embodiment.
A magazine at the time wrote that David Amess was "representative of new Essex man, working class, father electrician, right wing, keen hanger, noisily rambunctious, no subtlety," wrote a magazine at the time.
But, the Conservative grip on Essex appears to be slipping. In 2024, a Labour MP won this seat for the first time since its inception.
And, today, Nigel Farage has his eyes set on winning over Essex - and polling suggests his party, Reform UK, will sweep the region at upcoming local elections.
We’re searching for Essex Man to ask what he thinks of Nigel Farage, why he’s leaving the Conservatives behind, and who he’d like to see governing the region.
