So I got in my car, drove to Baton Rouge, and went to see what was actually happening for myself.
I spoke with protestors, listened to Louisiana senators debate redistricting, and heard directly from people fighting against changes they believe weaken representation and suppress voting power.
What I found was surprising.
From activists being pushed to the balcony during debate, to lawmakers passionately arguing over democracy, partisanship, and representation — this trip gave me a firsthand look at a story most people seem to have already moved on from.
