Please join the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) for a virtual discussion of CSIS Trustee Ray Dalio’s new book, Principles for Dealing with the Changing World Order: Why Nations Succeed and Fail. Mr. Dalio is joined by CSIS Trustee and Counselor Henry A. Kissinger to unpack this remarkable addition to his Principles series, which analyzes the repeating patterns and underlying correlation between all major changes in wealth and power over the last 500 years.

Mr. Dalio is the founder and co-chairman of Bridgewater Associates—the largest hedge fund in the world. He channels his breadth of experience to examine the convergence of political, ideological, and economic conditions facing our world. These include the huge debts and zero or near-zero interest rates that have led to massive printing of money in the world’s three major reserve currencies; large-scale political and social conflicts within countries, especially the US, due to the largest wealth, political, and value disparities in more than 100 years; and the emergence of the rising power of China who seeks to usurp the unipolar power of the United States in the existing world order.

By examining historically significant empires—including the Dutch, the British, and the American—Mr. Dalio puts into perspective the “Big Cycle” that has driven the success and failure of all the world’s major countries throughout history. Dalio’s book unearths the universal forces behind these shifts and uses them to predict the changing climate while offering practical principles to equip oneself for the future.
