Studies, starting with Pincus et. al in 2009, show otherwise.
Facts: in the overt phase, narcissists do attend therapy, but less than the average. When they experience collapse or mortification and become covert, they resort to therapy more than the average.
Because all narcissists go through covert phases, most of them end up showing up in clinical settings.
Moreover:
Intimate partners, spouses, courts, grown up children, the online ecosystem, and workplaces now force narcissists to attend therapy. Awareness of narcissism has exploded, so more narcissists than ever get diagnosed. There is a good case to say, anecdotally, that narcissism is being overdiagnosed, not underdiagnosed.
