Existence, self, boundaries emerge from an internalized gaze (being seen). It is a survival strategy experienced as a need. The first defining gaze is the mother’s and is traumatic.

The trauma remains lifelong: others’ gaze evince our unbridgeable separateness (intraversable intersubjective space) and result in existential angst.

Socializing is the cost of others’ defining gaze.

Artificial gaze is cost-free and leads to narcissistic solipsism.

This is because:

Intimacy challenges the business model of social media;

Technological self-sufficiency;

Socializing can be avoided or controlled (e.g., blocking or banning);

Aloneness becomes ego-syntonous owing to the preponderance of negative affect.

Narcissistic solipsism is a combination of fantasy and introjection. It is a rejection of reality and life itself.

Next stage is schizoid-avoidant, an autogaze (self-supply).
