On Saturday, December 12th, 2020, Shimmy (Ernst Jean-Jacques Jr.) was accused of a crime he didn't commit. On that day, Dianna Ploss and her followers held a Trump rally in Swampscott (MA), even after Trump had lost the election. Shimmy and a group of protestors showed up to counter-protest what they describe as "hate." What is clear is that, with a barricade separating the two, Shimmy was dancing in front of "Bubbe," an elderly Trump supporter. A clearly annoyed Bubbe walked away, grabbed a bottle of water, walked back over to Shimmy and doused him in water on that cold December day.

The police arrested Shimmy and charged him with felony assault after Dianna and her followers alleged that he punched Bubbe. What ensued was an 11-month court battle that revealed, through video evidence, that Shimmy had not punched Bubbe, but he had instead, with an open hand, swatted the bottle of water away from her. The case against Shimmy was dismissed on November 30th, 2021—the same day that a magistrate judge ruled that probable cause exists to charge with Bubbe with a crime for pouring water on Shimmy—after Bubbe refused to testify at trial. We will discuss what happened that day and in court, how these false accusations have affected Shimmy's life, and what happens now that the case is over, with Shimmy and his lawyer, Murat Erkan.
