We now know a bit about mushrooms, their structure, and their life cycle, but let's learn a bit more terminology before we dive head first into the world of mushrooms. We know about stipes and caps and partial veils and spores, but precisely how much variation exists for these structures? A tremendous amount, in fact! And not only will it be good to get a sense of precisely how much variation so that we can learn about all kinds of mushrooms, but this is a great way to prepare ourselves to be able to recognize and identify mushrooms in the wild. It will also help us avoid any poisonous mushrooms, so let's start preparing!

Script by William Marcus

Much of the mushroom photography was provided by Stephen Axford of Planet Fungi. For more dazzling footage check out Stephen's fungi safari in the forests of the Himalayas documenting over 200 species of mushrooms! I'm serious, it's incredible, go watch the trailer
