They don't, which provides enormous challenges for any researcher. In order to properly construct a chronology, we have to know about ring anomalies like absent rings, false rings, micro rings, and pinching rings. We have to know the difference between earlywood and latewood. We have to know about reaction wood, like compression wood and tension wood. There's a lot to discuss, so let's get into it!
