2:13Now PlayingI had a blast filming the Big Boy 4014 as it rumbled past through Utah and into Wyoming today. If you love trains, history, or just the sight and sound of something truly massive rolling by, you’re going to enjoy this one.
Built for Union Pacific beginning in 1941, Big Boy locomotives were designed to haul heavy loads between Ogden, Utah, and Cheyenne, Wyoming. No. 4014 is 133 feet long, weighs 1.2 million pounds, and was retired in 1961 after traveling more than 1,031,205 miles. After a full restoration, it returned to service in 2019.
There’s nothing quite like seeing this legend in motion.
