Robert Card, 40, is facing an arrest warrant for eight counts of murder and should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.
Police are urging residents to shelter in place and report any suspicious activity to authorities. Lewiston is the state's second-largest city and is located about 36 miles north of Portland.
The violence added to a list of 565 mass shootings reported across the United States this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
