The New England Patriots parted ways with head coach Bill Belichick "amicably" on Thursday after more than two decades and six Super Bowl titles, which is the most won by a single head coach in NFL history and tied for the most by a single franchise in the league.

"Robert and I, after a series of discussions, have mutually agreed to part ways. For me, this is a day of gratitude and celebration," Belichick said.
