Martin Shaw is a sociologist, who is interested in global politics, war and genocide. He has written a number of books about war (since the period of the Second Cold War in the early 1980s), and genocide (since around 2000). He has been politically engaged with war for even longer, having helped organize the big London demonstrations against the Vietnam War in 1967-68 when he was a student at the London School of Economics, and being involved in the anti-nuclear movement of the ‘80s. Shaw is British, but his new book is the first he has written about British politics - the shock of Brexit, comparable to the shock of Trump’s election, prompted him to look into the role of racism in this shift.
