In today’s episode of Figuring Out, we have Dr. Mandar Nadkarni in conversation with Raj Shamani. Dr. Nadkarni has been a Surgical Oncologist for more than 20 years, serves as the Head of Breast Oncology, and works at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. This episode is a masterclass on cancer and how we can protect our loved ones from this disease.
In this episode, we discussed the common misconceptions about cancer, what breast cancer is, the various causes of breast cancer, why India leads in breast cancer cases, and why women in metro cities are more prone to breast cancer than those in rural areas. We also covered the early signs of breast cancer, whether breast cancer can result from other types of existing cancers, and whether alcohol and smoking can trigger its development.
Towards the end, we talked about what a biopsy is, whether women can have babies after breast cancer, the best hospitals in the world for cancer treatment, the side effects of different cancer treatments, and some shocking stories about how husbands in rural areas react when their wives are diagnosed with cancer.
