as posted by the channelWe put this together after stumbling across a great collection of photographs, most of which were taken by Matthew Brady in 1863, during the height of the American Civil War and with the outcome very much in doubt. I LOVE these types of photographs from that era. It is fascinating to think that these people lived 150 years ago, with each having their own life story. What were their lives like? How many were forced to marry someone against their wishes? How many lost their lives in childbirth (as happened tragically often). The clothing is intriguing, and it helps to paint a clearer picture of the era. I also find it fascinating that each of these women woke up one morning to travel down to the studio, having no idea that we would be looking back in time at them now. For them, even the concept of flipping on a switch to fill a room with light would have been unthinkable, much less using the internet, landing on the moon, or sending a rover to Mars. The wonderful song is from the Revolutionary War era and is performed by James Taylor.
