YouTube Description
as posted by the channelIn 2002, Afghan farmers grew poppies for the illegal drug market. The solution? A $30 million cash for poppies program which paid farmers $700 an acre to destroy their crops.
Turns out you can’t get paid to destroy a poppy crop if you don’t have one. As a result, poppy cultivation exploded with farmers selling the valuable sap on the black market before getting paid to destroy the remaining plants. #afghanistan #middleeast #government
