3:29Now PlayingLong ago, the residents of Jenin refugee camp in occupied Palestinian erected a monument at the entrance to the camp. They named it "Al Awda" ("the Return"). The camp's refugees erected the monument to symbolize their aspiration to return to their homeland one day. This is a right that they enjoy under international law. Following the October 7 attacks in Israel, Israeli soldiers damaged the Al Awda monument. While visiting the Jenin refugee camp on March 12, 2024, Dimitri Lascaris recorded footage of the damage. Later than night, Israeli forces returned to Jenin and destroyed the monument. Lascaris returned the next day (March 13) and recorded footage of the destroyed monument.
