"Bathroom Bill" a Political Ploy for November Election?

Josh Stein, a Democrat running for Attorney General in North Carolina this November, says the Republican Bathroom Bill Is Bad for Business

"It doesn't matter that it's unconstitutional," said Josh Stein, currently leading the race to become North Carolina's next Attorney General. "We cannot afford self-inflicted wounds where we are putting ourself at a competitive disadvantage. There have been thousands of lost jobs as a result of this bill, tens of millions of dollars of foregone investment that could have strengthened our economy here, and the damage to our brand is incalculable."

Concerned that North Carolina's "Bathroom Bill" — a knee-jerk reaction to the city of Charlotte passing a law to protect the rights of transgender residents — is hurting the states ability to compete with neighboring states to attract businesses and investment, Stein told TYT's Eric Byler, "As of last week, there have been 50 thousand media hits with 18 billion impressions, that's 3 impressions for every person on this planet.

Josh Stein spoke to us by phone from Durham, NC, a city for which served for 8 years in the North Carolina state senate. There Stein was an outspoken leader in the fight to expand voting rights and offer protections against discrimination, and, after those measures had proven successful, against a radical, and legally dubious backlash that included historic voting restrictions & infringements upon reproductive rights.

Stein's opponent for Attorney General, state senator Buck Newton, is one of the main champions of the "Bathroom Bill," and also supported the voting restrictions & abortion restrictions that passed in 2013. Stein left the NC state senate in March after winning the North Carolina primary race for Attorney General.
