3:12Now PlayingTYT Politics Eric Byler (@EricByler) covered the unveiling of Ben & Jerry's new ice cream flavor with a progressive twist. The new peppermint ice cream is available in stores. It features crushed brownies and expresses the founders' "belief that voting gives everyone a taste of empowerment, & that an election should be more 'by the people' and less 'buy the people!'"
Part of the proceeds fromEmpower Mint will aid in struggle to provide voting rights protections for minorities, and, to prevent multinational corporations and American billionaires from secretly buying our elections. They unveiled there new flavor with the aid of Rev. Dr. William Barber, leader of the modern day Civil Rights movement, as well as North Carolina PIRG, and Common Cause.
America's centuries old voting rights struggle is now in federal court after the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act of 1965 in the summer of 2013.
2016 will be the first presidential election since 1964 without the full protections of the Voting Rights Act.
