Taralei Griffin walked from Philadelphia to Washington DC as part of the Democracy Spring protests against money in politics and voter suppression. She was one of 1,400 people arrested during 8 days of protests at the U.S. Capitol in late April 2016, and then returned to Washington DC after a brief period in her home state of Tennessee. She is now serving as an organizer for Democracy Spring, living in the Washington DC area.
The possible end of the Bernie Sanders campaign, coupled with the terror attack in Orlando caused her usually high spirits to fall during the period between Sen. Sanders rally in DC on June 9, 2016 and his defeat in the Washington DC Democratic primary five days later. Add to this endorsements by President Obama and Sen. Elizabeth Warren for Hillary Clinton as the presumptive nominee for the Democratic party this November, and it would take a social media miracle to lift Taralei's spirits as this week-in-the-life report comes to a close.
