Our reply to a comment about whether we are too forgiving of Trump supporters when it comes to prejudice:

Racism is at the heart of the founding of our nation, and everything that has happened since. As if we didn't need more proof, here we are in the year of Trump, looking at the possibility of 4 more of them. But that doesn't mean we have to demonize people who have absorbed some of the darkest precepts of our cultural ethos. Most of them mistake it for something else. I don't know about Jordan, but I feel like 90% of the people who have said racist things to us on the campaign trail don't realize it.

I'm not offended by racism so much as I am offended by institutionalized racism. In other words, I don't hate people, I hate injustice.

We can be forgiving of our neighbors, family members and fellow Amerians even as we condemn their words. We must prevent racism and other forms of bigotry from being codified into law (that is the imminent danger right now). And we must root racism out of existing law, and its application. A majority of Americans want to do this. It can be an overwhelming majority if we put dialogue before demonization. Darkness cannot chase out darkness. Hate cannot chase out hate.... — @EricByler
