The Congressional Voting Rights Caucus called for testimony following the 2016 election, fearing that America is returning to an acceptance of suppression of minority voters as part of our electoral landscape. A wave of voter suppression laws swept state governments in America following the election of its first Black President, the subsequent backlash election of 2010, and the Supreme Court decree of 2013 that the Voting Rights Act is no longer needed now that "racism has ended."
Other panelists included Rev. Dr. William Barber, president of the North Carolina NAACP, and Barbara Arnwine, president of the Transformative Justice Coalition, Maria Urbina of Voto Latino, and Ben Ptashnik, Executive Director of the Election Defense Coalition.
